Welcome to the
Student Health Law Association!
The Health Law Student Community
The Student Health Law Association (SHLA) is a student-run organization for law students interested in health-related legal disciplines. It has been awarded “Organization of the Year” by the Student Bar Association in the past for coordinating numerous student-centered activities, such as:
An annual mentor-mentee program in which students are paired with practicing Atlanta health law attorneys
Participation in National Health Law Competitions
Speaker programs on timely topics for law students
SHLA co-sponsors activities with the Center for Law, Health & Society to foster formal and informal exchanges among its members and with faculty, alumni, and professional organizations in the health care field.
Please explore our Web site to learn more about our organization and its many activities. Georgia State College of Law students are welcome to join our OrgSync group which is the source of all student updates. SHLA members receive emails through this group, which include updates on getting involved, career opportunities, and staying informed about upcoming SHLA events.
Annual Health Law Award
Each year, the Center for Law, Health & Society seeks applications for the annual Health Law Award, which is presented on Honors Day at the College of Law. This award is granted to the 3L student who demonstrates outstanding achievement across a range of criteria, including: academic performance in health law courses; writing in health law; and experiential learning (e.g. participation in clinics, externships, etc.) in the area of health law; as well as demonstrated commitment to health law through activities such as student organization leadership, health law related moot court participation, and other activities.
A monetary award and commemorative plaque will be given to the student selected for this award. The Center for Law, Health & Society and Student Health Law Association thank the Health Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia for supporting this monetary award.
The application period is generally announced in January each year. Contact Stacie Kershner at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and to request an application.
