Student Network for Public Health Law

Georgia State University College of Law is a pilot site for the Student Network for Public Health Law, which is housed within SHLA.  With Growing interest in the field of public health law, we are seeing an increasing number of colleges offering joint J.D./M.P.H. programs and a clear need for public health law resources on these law and graduate school campuses.  To meet this need and to grow the field, the Network for Public Health Law is launching the Student Network for Public Health Law.

Network for Public Health Law

The Network for Public Health Law provides insightful legal assistance, helpful resources and opportunities to build connections for local, tribal, state and federal officials; public health practitioners; attorneys; policy-makers; and advocates.  The Network's tagline- "Ideas.  Experience.  Practical Answers." - describes the core of the Network.

Public health professionals interact with the law in both their daily tasks and long-term endeavors.  The Network brainstorms creative ideas and helps strategize options to use the law to approach a challenge.

The Network is led by experts with years of real-world experience in public health law.  More importantly, the Network has connections across the country to leverage the knowledge, experience and expertise of others.

Practical Answers

The Network serves those in the practicing community.  That's why the Network provides practical support to address everyday questions and challenges.

Student Network for Public Health Law

The goal of the new nationwide Student Network is to foster the next generation of progressive leaders in public health law. Working alongside interested students and faculty members at law and graduate schools across the country, the Network will establish four pilot Student Network programs on campuses in the fall of 2012 and steadily increase that number starting in the spring of 2013.

Network staff will work through the process laid out by each school to establish Student Network chapters on their campus, similar to other student organizations (such as the American Constitution Society Student Chapters). The Network will coordinate with student chapters at these sites in order to expand students’ understanding of and accessibility to the burgeoning field of public health law.
